Any one had experience with,, Alendronic acid???

in a 74 yr oldAny one had experience with,, Alendronic acid???
Alendronic acid is a bisphosphonate. These are drugs given to people (more often female), who have evidence of or are at risk of having osteoporosis.
Anyone over 50 years who has had a fracture in a simple fall, anyone who has been on steroids or anyone whose x-rays suggest osteoporosis and is then bone scanned and this is confirmed.
Virtually all patients taking bisphosphonates should be on a calcium and vitamin D supplement as well.( unless they drink 2 pints of milk every day.) This is because in simple terms, bisphosphonates are designed to push calcium back into bones, to do this they need plenty of calcium to work on. generally the once weekly tablets are used now, with daily calcium. They are unfortunately not the easiest tablets to take!
However Bisphosphonates have been shown to decrease the risk of future fractures.
Alendronic acid helps treat and prevent osteoporosis by preventing loss of bone mass and by helping to rebuild lost bone. Bisphosphonates bind very tightly to bone, preventing the removal of calcium from the bone cells.
It's a bisphosphonate. And it's used in the treatment of osteoporosis.
Yes i take one a week for ostioporosis I am 53 yrs old and have been on them for 15yrs now .
